Hive
Megan Randlett
United StatesGALLERYCONVERSATION
Hive is a seductive sculpture of beeswax, drawing the viewer to its color, touch and smell. At the same time, it represents a massive wound.

Hive is my response to the ambivalence we often feel when thinking about our own bodies. There are days when we're comfortable in our skin, and other days when the opposite is true.

I have experienced embarrassment with my appearance many times, without ever understanding why. I have found this to be true for many women of varied backgrounds and ages.

I also am not sure sometimes how I feel about my body's functions. The ability to give birth, for example, is both fascinating and terrifying to me.

These contradictions and apprehensions about my body as a woman have driven my work for some time now.
