When I got pregnant I was terrified. At that time, I was a senior in high school with excellent grades and I even...
I thought about having an abortion, but having grown up going to church, I decided against it. At about four and a half months along, I finally summoned up the courage to say something. I told my uncle and aunt who had adopted me when I was nine. As I had feared, my uncle was really disappointed.
Unexpectedly, after almost a decade of separation, my mother became that parent every daughter wishes for. Instead of making me feel ashamed or hopeless, she convinced me not to worry because she would always be there for me. I stopped feeling so alone and started to realize  that I could still achieve my dreams. I had just taken a short detour.
